Our Story...

Berlyn Cosman, a Crescenta Valley High School student, was murdered in 1991 at an unsupervised, post-prom hotel party. The response to this tragedy was the creation of an event for seniors after the dance, something that would keep our kids local and safe, yet still provide them with a fun time. This event is Prom Plus. As an alternative to an unchaperoned party, Prom Plus offers a supervised post-prom event held at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA. Since 1994, from midnight to 5:00 a.m., Prom Plus has provided a variety of things for attendees to do that have included a full casino with Blackjack, Poker, Craps, Roulette plus Pool Tables, Ping-Pong, Photo Booths, DJ, Gyroscope, Acroflight, DDR, Mechanical Bull, Rock Climbing Wall, Balloon Artist, Arcade Games, Caricatures, Temporary Tattoos, Zip Line, Food Court (pizza, sandwiches, appetizers, fresh fruit, cookies, smoothies, coffee, soda). Prizes too! Admission is included with the purchase of a  prom ticket. Prom Plus is open to all seniors regardless whether or not they attend the prom.

Our goal is to make Prom Plus part of every senior’s prom plans, and the growing attendance over the last several years proves that the idea is catching on. On average over 375 CV High School seniors and their dates choose Prom Plus over an unsupervised party! Seniors who don't attend prom can come only to Prom Plus. They  just come to the Crescenta Cañada Y (1930 Foothill Blvd.) at midnight and pay $20 at the door.

We are always looking for creative “fun-raising” ideas and rely on the generosity of the community to recognize and support this worthy cause. In 2009,  Prom Plus Club, the student arm of Prom Plus, was created to get CVHS students more involved. Our hope is to make sure Prom Plus is exactly what seniors want it to be by having all high school students involved with the planning. The CVHS Prom Plus Club created a team and participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The Club has evolved into one of the most dynamic and respected volunteer organizations in the Crescenta Valley.

The cost of putting on this annual event is in excess of $20,000. Pre-COVID, we held a variety of fundraisers throughout the year to raise this money, including two barbecues every school year during Back to School Night and Open House; hosting an annual Holiday Boutique; and organizing the Taste of Montrose to showcase the many fine restaurants that our city has to offer.

We are currently (March 2022) meeting via Zoom. To find out more information, contact Robin Goldsworthy at (818) 601-2432 or email info@promplus.org.
